Role Summary

Directly responsible to the Cafe Manager and Cook.

To actively support the day-to-day operation of this social enterprise working primarily, but not exclusively, front of house serving drinks, light snacks, breakfast and lunches, and helping to facilitate work experience opportunities for our Jigsaw+ department.

The Café:

  • Serve customers promptly, courteously and with a smile
  • Serve customers with appetising, well presented food and beverages
  • Ensure Costa products are dispensed and served to Costa brand standard
  • Ensure coffee dispensing equipment is cleaned daily and well maintained as per operating instructions
  • Ensure FOH displays are kept fully stocked and well presented
  • Ensure tables are cleared and cleaned promptly
  • Assist in all aspects of kitchen service as and when required
  • Maintain a clean and tidy environment in the Café at all times
  • Assist in setting up and setting down of the Café each day
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures as required
  • Operate the till system, cash handing and card payments
  • Fully comply with Health & Safety and Food Hygiene regulations at all times
  • Keep up to date with menu changes and any other relevant product knowledge
  • Willingly assist all members of the Café team as and when required
  • Report equipment problems to the Café Manager
  • Undertake any other duties and tasks as assigned by the Café Manager

The Kitchen:

  • Assist in all aspects of kitchen service
  • Assist Cook/Chef with the preparation of food
  • Clean all kitchen utensils, equipment, plates and cutlery including loading/unloading of dishwasher
  • Put away plates, cutlery, kitchen utensils & equipment appropriately
  • Use kitchen equipment as instructed by the Cook
  • Maintain a clean and tidy environment in all areas of the kitchen (work surfaces, floors and walls) at all times
  • Assist in setting up and setting down of the kitchen each day
  • Assist in disposal of rubbish
  • Unload, check and store deliveries
  • Organise and maintain the store cupboard(s)/storage shelves

General:

  • Willingly assist all members of the Café team as and when required
  • Report equipment problems to the Café Manager or Cook, as appropriate
  • Undertake any other duties and tasks as assigned by the Café Manager or Cook
  • Assist in facilitating work experience opportunities
  • Fully comply with Health & Safety and Food Hygiene regulations at all times
  • Occasional requirement to work additional hours (paid or time-off in lieu)
